He’s the Latin prince of soul, has released his first CD on iTunes. And he’s only 20-years-old. He’s Marcos Perez, a former suburban high school football star turned performer of his own music that recalls the heyday of Earth Wind & Fire and Al Green. He has his first single, “Don’t Test”, a soulful combination of Old School R & B and Hip Hop, is in the midst of a distribution deal and plans for a cross country road tour.
All while trying to do homework and finish high school. “I love listening to Prince, Earth Wind & Fire, Al Green – even The Beatles, Lenny Williams and HeatWave,“ he says. “I want to bring back that Old School feel.” Perez, who loves wearing a slightly tilted baseball cap and tight T-shirt showing off the physique he developed during this football workouts, is starting to sizzle in his hometown Dallas.

The two songs, "Don't Test," and "Here With Me," respectively, underscore his connection to the audience he's targeting: young, hip and bilingual. “Don’t Test” is part of a CD was released this year on Indie record label, Toro Records. His father, Tony, was a soul singer in the 1980s and 1990s who has appeared on “It’s Showtime at the Apollo!” is driven to make sure they’re successful.
